Introduction
+ what is a drama?
I have
been set a task to create an opening sequence for a film. I have chosen the
genre of drama. I have chosen drama because statistics, from the Domestic Movie
Theatrical Market Summary (1995-2013) shows that drama was the fourth highest
grossing genre in this time with a market share of 16.74% and was only just
behind action films with 16.92%.
I was
originally thinking of doing a horror opening sequence but I found that most of
the results of previous AS attempts were low scoring and drama, comedy, action
and adventure scored higher. Horror films also have a very specific audience
and don’t always have large audience which means they are not as popular as
other genres.
Dramas
appeal to a wide audience therefore I won’t find it too difficult to please the
audience watching my opening sequence. Dramas also focus on specific characters
dealing with a specific problem or situation and this is something that
everyone can relate to.
